Limit Texas holdem strategy- The importance of Position:

Position is a term that refers to the order in which players must act during each round of betting. The preferred position is the dealer, also called the button. The player in this position has the advantage of seeing what the other players do before deciding how to play his own hand. This gives the player more information than the other positions. The player on the button also has the option of simply “limping-in”, or calling the bet instead of raising.

Another advantage of the button is the ability to occasionally see a free card with a drawing hand. The next best position is just to the right of the dealer, and so on, until the position to the left of the big blind. The later a player must act in a round, the better.

Importance of Starting Hand:

The starting hand is equally important to your game. This article will provide a few good starting hands as they relate to your position. Of course, as you gain more experience, you will be able to alter these hands somewhat, and you will learn even more strategies for winning.

Good starting hands include:

Early Position: AA KK Q AKs AK AQs AQ AJs
Middle Position: JJ TT AJ ATs AT KQ KJs KJ QJs
Late Position: 99 A5s A4s A3s A2s KTs KT K9s QJ QTs QT JTs
Small Blind: 88 77 66 55 44 33 22 JT and any other suited cards

In the above listing, a lowercase s signifies a suited card. These hands are meant to be used if no one else before you has raised the pot. If this has already happened, you’ll have to act. If at all possible, try and enter the pot with only the best of  hands like large pairs or Aces.
