Texas Hold’em is a great poker game. The rules of the game are simple and anyone with even very little knowledge of poker can understand Texas Hold’em fairly quickly. While learning the rules of the game is of course important, it is also true that one must know what the various terms of the game are. You do not want to begin play and then wonder what the term ‘flop’ means or what is meant by a ‘blind’. Not knowing what the words of Texas Hold’em poker mean can end not only embarrassing you on the table but could also end up in you loosing the game entirely. Do keep in mind that the rules indicate that you cannot ask for clarification while the game is on and this is why it is crucial that you know Texas Hold’em strategy before you begin play.

Let us clarify a few Texas Hold’em Strategy Tips–

•    All –in – This move is a must know when it comes to Texas Hold’em strategy. Here the player means that he/she is betting all his/her playable chips on the hand. This is when all the chips of the player will be mover into the pot. Needless to say, such a move is rare and puts the player in a win all or loose all situation.
•    Bad bet – A bad bet is a term used to define a hand which looses despite having better odds that the winning hand of the player who took the pot home. Simply put this term is used as an alternative for bad luck. So in case you had pocket aces and you opponent had pocket fives but you ended up loosing all the same because your opponent managed a set by using the flops, this would be a bad bet.
•    Blind – This is a bet that is made even before the cards are dealt. There are two types of blind on the Texas Hold’em table. The player on the left of the dealer is known as the small blind, while the player on the left of the small blind is the big blind. The small blind has to bet half of big blind and these bets are compulsory and made even before the first round of cards are dealt. So the game will begin with a bet from the player seated on the left of the big blind after the cards have been dealt.
•    Boat- This is a term used to refer to a bottom pair of the full house.
•    Pair – This is a combination of cards in the game of poker. Here the player makes a pair with the lowest cards that are showing on the flop.
•    Flop- These are the first three community cards that are placed on the table with their face up. These cards are dealt in the second round after the first round of betting is over.
•    Turf- This is the fourth community card that is placed on the table with its face up. This card comes in the third round after the second round of betting is over.
•    River – This is the fifth and the last community card and is put on table in the fourth round after the third round of betting is over.
